The Chinese have long known that life has its roots in our genetic lineage, and that in order to protect this integrity for future generations, we need to nurture our health at its root. They found that this root is housed in the Kidneys, and they called this the 'primal essence', or 'Jing'. Jing is like a savings account, something one never wants to drain. Many facets of life today can 'leak' this Jing; stress, overwork, difficult childbirth (most commonly the first), excessive semen release by men, lack of rest, illness, accidents; these represent leakages of our Jing essence.
